Spiritual Retreat To Dallas-"Somos Iglesia"

In the spirit of brotherly love, this weekend I had the honor of being invited to Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Dallas, Texas to participate in a spiritual retreat that the PNCC Parish entitled "Somos Iglesia" or We Are the Church. This was significant event for me because it showed how it is through us as the people of God are each called to service within the church. Our PNCC openly embraces this spirit of "Truth, Work and Strugle," and it is with this same spirit that I would like to begin this blog. I thank our Lord that he has continued to bless our beloved PNCC in the Texas region with significant growth in our Parishes in this part of the United States. I pray that with the help of our Lord Jesus Christ that our Polish National Catholic Church will continue to grow and continue in the spirit that we all are a part of the Church. After all, " Somos Iglesia"

One of the doctrines of the PNCC is: "The Word of God heard and preached is recognized as a sacrament"

I would like to know what is the origin of this doctrine. I am interested in whether this is a position unique to the PNCC or whether it exists in other denominations. Thanks

  2. To best answer this question I would like to quote from the Catechism of the PNCC of its origens within our church.
"Unique with the Catholic tradition, the PNCC regognizes the preaching and hearing the Word of God as a Sacrament. Our Church combines Baptism and Confirmation as the First Sacrament, and adds the Preaching and Hearing of the Word of God as the second Sacrament.
This understanding of preaching as a sacramental action came about at the Second General Synod of the PNCC held in Scranton, PA on September 28 and 29, 1909. A Report of the Synod printed in the Church's official organ in 1913 gives the official report of the Synod:
"Hearing of the Word of God, preached according to the teachings of Christ the Lord and the Apostles, has sacramental force, that is, it causes in us the same effects as does the recieving of the other sacraments. (The Sacrament of God,Written by Rt.Rev Anthony Mikovsky, Published by the Church Doctrine Commission)"
Jim I hope I' ve answered your question accordingly if you would like to further your education on the Sacrament of the Word I can forward you a catechism free of charge.

How is your seminary work coming along? Have you moved from ABVM to St. M & R? What is the time line for your ordination?
